So its all over the news that this guy was arrested and charged for child molesting. The cops are saying his crimes may date back to the early eighties, and apparently people are coming forward with more allegations. Its an almost sure bet that as this story unfolds it will be revealed that there were previous complaints or allegations made but that nothing came of it for one reason or another. I may be wrong but I doubt that I am.
Needless to say that anyone who harms a child to fulfill some deviant desire should be subjected to equally vile punishment and never given another opportunity to live in society, unfortunately that’s not the usual outcome in these cases. The best I can tell statistically the average pedophile serves around 7 years. There is so much conflicting data its hard to really pin it down. Suffice to say the vast majority of them will reenter society at some point down the road. The problem as I see it is that these creeps are treated as if they have a disease when in fact they are a disease.
In most prisons sex offenders are given the option to seek treatment while inside and rewarded with an earlier release than if they opt to do so. In Rochester they were kept separate from the general population while going through "treatment" and then shipped elsewhere when they were done. Shrinks will tell you that these guys are as much victim as predator, that almost all of them were abused as children. What they don’t bother to tell you is that the vast majority of victims of molestation do not go on to becoming child molesters themselves. I’ve never bought in to the school of thought that says they cant help it, its uncontrollable, but even if it is true then how does sitting around in group therapy with like minded dirt bags make them better? The short answer is that it doesn’t. If your wiring is so fucked up that you would rape someone, be it man , woman or child, then no amount of Rorschach tests and psycho babble is going to fix it.
Fucking up some kid for the rest of their life will get you seven years, and growing 10 pot plants can get you life, that’s the world we live in.
And what about the family and friends of these wack jobs, are they not paying any attention at all? I’m sure we have all worked with or lived near someone who we instantly knew that this guy is one creepy mother fucker. People who aren’t right in the head or who are capable of heinous shit are for the most part easy to spot. If a middle aged man spends time dressed as beetle juice working for free at haunted houses, dresses in an uber creepy Grinch outfit for xmas, then I’ve got to believe he was throwing up some other tell tale signs of weirdness. Ever see a picture of notorious wacko serial killer John Wayne Gacy in his clown suit, or sans clown suit for that matter?
People need to wake the fuck up, know who their kids are around and take measures to protect them. I realize that there will still be those who slip by undetected and in the end there is no way to protect every child all of the time. Bad shit happens, its inevitable, but I cant help but think that more of it could be prevented if people would wake up and look around.
So the stories about "prison justice" for child molesters are not true? I was hoping they are for real.
ReplyDeleteNo they are true to some extent. The thing is that nobody knows unless it somehow gets put out there. If a person is found to be a child molester, they definetly are at the bottom of the food chain. Thats why they send them to one prison for "treatment" then ship them somewhere else. They get preyed upon, but not as often or as brutally as one would hope.
ReplyDeleteI think that (molesters) sitting around talking about it with like-minded individuals gain validation ("See, I'm not the only one!"). They say that "treating" a sexual offender rarely works. I'd go so far as to say that it makes the offender worse. Whatever the accepted method of treating sexual offenders is, it doesn't work and needs to be scrapped altogether and replaced with a system that does (I vote for castration and penal colonies, no pun intended).
ReplyDeleteThe sex abuse industry rakes in zillions of taxpayer dollars a year and is almost 100% unsuccessful. How much longer are we going to throw money at these so-called experts?
IMO almost all social service industries perpetuate the ills of society they claim they are trying to fix. Job security.
Sorry for the ramble!
You ask what about the family of the whack jobs. The fact of the matter is that as horrifying as cases like this one are, and despite the fact that these are the ones that get all the media attention, "family" is more often than not the problem. Most child molestation occurs in the home, not out of it. It's daddy, brother, grandpa and uncle, not creepy-guy who are the real problem. A child is at greatest risk of being sexually molested at home by a relative, not in a haunted house, at the Boy Scout meeting, the church camp or soccer practice. The reality is that in most cases, the issue isn't that the parents didn't know who the kid was around; the problem was right there at the dinner table. I also agree that just because shit happens to you as a kid doesn't give you a free pass to be a predator. Pedophiles are almost always victims as kids, but as you say, not all who were victimized grow up to be predators. The recidivism rate for child molesters is almost 100% and there is no evidence that therapy works. Even chemical castration has only limited effectiveness--in most cases, their dicks don't work but the drive is still there, so they just get more angry and frustrated and use objects as weapons of abuse. These people don't change. Once they're convicted they should be removed from society forever. No exceptions.
ReplyDeleteOK, I promise that I'll never post as long a comment again and sure won't do two in a row, but I was just reading up on this case (see? you're so educational) and saw that this fucker had a business called "Prime Cuts." That's just funny. Sick and wrong, but funny. You can't make this shit up.
ReplyDeleteI hope "Jessica's law" helps prevent second, third offenses in the future by incarcerating these animals for minimum 25 years. The problem is recognizing them before their first offense. I am convinced we have one in our neighborhood. His 8 year old daughter was the clue. She pulled up porn on the internet while visiting my granddaughter (caught in the act by my horrified daughter), and we also later heard of her acting out lewd behavior on the school bus, etc. Soon after my daughter saw the child's father on television accused of running naked through a local Walmart. Putting two and two together, she decided to call the police and the school and reported him as a possible sex offender. The school refused to comment, but the girl stopped riding the bus soon after. The father is still living at the home so I guess he was not prosecuted (police never contacted my daughter after her report).
ReplyDeleteThe poor child is undoubtedly a victim of her own father and heaven only knows what else he has done, yet lives freely in society.
