SOS< I need help from the blogosphere....SOS.....UPDATE!!!!

Totally unrelated to anything other than my own self serving needs. My TV is on the fritz, warranty just expired. Anybody know a decent TV repair place that does house calls in the war torn midtown area? Even better would be some freelance electronics nerd that wont charge me more than a new one costs. This thing tips the scales at over 200 pounds and wouldn't fit in my car, so taking it in isn't an option. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming. Thanks.
UPDATE
So I get on Google and find some board full of TV geeks. Apparently this is a common problem with my model of Sony. The guy says to point a hair dryer at the bottom back corner of the TV on high heat for 3 minutes. It worked, back in business.

  1. I am not sure if this applies to you but if you paid for your TV with a gold or platinum credit card it doubles the manufacturer's warranty.Instead of the manufacturer you have to call the credit card but little bit of paperwork is worth couple hundred bucks. If you paid cash you are out of luck.

  2. I bought it through best buy with the extended warranty, so Im screwed there.

  3. If you decide to buy a new TV I'd be willing to meet you at midtown Costco on my day off.

  4. I'll keep that in mind. The thing is this TV cost 1300.00, and Ill take the pepsi challenge against a plasma or lcd any day of the week. Built in surround, all the bells and whistles, a sony, flat wide tube. Unfortunatly none of that matters since its just a flat black hole staring at me. I may take you up on that , stay tuned.

  6. You might as well invest in a new one. All the channels are going to HD and the old models aren't compatible.

  7. It is Hd Edward, digital, so it does everything a lcd or plasma does.

  8. HD and it's a tube?

WTF? No wonder it weighs 200lbs.

Personally, I went DLP and I'm quite happy.

Im going to upgrade, but the set is less than 5 years old and was like 1300.00. Thats a lot of cheddar for not a lot of viewing time. Im squeezing every last drop out of this fucker before I drop another wad on a new one.
