Urban Blight........The retail edition.

There's only about 35 shopping days left until Christmas. The thought of fighting the ugly crowds, the traffic, the high prices, got you down?
I'm all about public service when it comes to all 4 of my readers. So here is a suggestion to help you avoid all the hustle and bustle, and you'll save a bunch to boot.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to finish your day of shopping with some flap jacks and weak coffee. It, seems the IHOP had to close their doors. I think someone found some lead in their stuffed french toast.
But MM, there are only two stores opened in the old Bannister Mall complex. How can I meet my shopping needs in that derelict, blighted , abandoned corpse of commerce, you ask.

Well, you can't , unless you are in the market for several thousand tires that someone dumped in the parking lot. On the bright side, they are free for the taking, and you will get to see one of the most embarrassing examples of a city that works. And I just managed to squeeze an entire post out of it.

  1. It is very sad out there. It doesn't seem like that long ago that Bannister Mall was "the" place to go.

  3. That's a shame. I worked at Bannister Mall for more than three years in the mid-1980s when it was the "nice mall" in town.

  7. It will be reborn as the new Home of the Wizards in 2010.

I grew-up there, graduated from Hickman Mills, and worked/played at the mall during the 80's. What a shame.

  8. they ought to use bannister mall as a movie set as they can't do anymore damage to it than the rats are now. Such a shame to see an expensive building go to waste. Make it into a homeless shelter for the winter. It could house most of the homeless and keep them from freezing out in the weather. Any roof over your head is better than none at all. Try sleeping out in the yard sometime with a newspaper or cardboard box to keep you warm in the middle of winter.

  9. You know what is sad? That Bannister Mall is actually the least blighted structure in that area.

  10. What happened to KC? I used to drive up from Wichita to shop at Bannister Square and Metcalf South, and they're both toast now.
But I rarely set foot in the malls in Wichita, either. Maybe I'M the problem.

  11. You wonder what happened to the mall?! Look at the people around the mall and the people who went to the mall. It's obvious what happened, the same thing that happens to everywhere else these people go! It turns to crap! Independence Center is well on it's way!!! Learn to respect things and things stay nice.

  12. I agree with the person who doesn't go to malls anymore. Great Mall in Olathe is probably next on the list to be locked up.

  13. I miss Bannister Mall. That place used to have a Frederick's of Hollywood. You can't buy trashy lingerie like that in the suburban malls.

Um, not that I'm one to buy trashy lingerie or anything...
