You would think by now that nothing would shock me, or anyone of you, as far as that goes. Just think about it for a second, parent's kill their children, children return the favor, mothers sit idly by while fathers do horrendous irreparable harm to their own. We are inundated with one tragic story after another, we start to build up a resistance to it all. Before you know it, the shit on the news seems unreal, might as well be Desperate Surviving Housewives in A Great Race to be the Biggest Loser, or whatever the latest reality show may be. I mean to say that the constant onslaught of one tragedy after another, removes the reality of it all. We stop being shocked, or it at least takes something especially fucked up. I think the following qualifies.
Back in November a four year old girl shot herself in the head with a pistol that belonged to Billy Blood, a friend of the mother. The little girl, Angelina Jimenez, is just as dead as she can be. The woman, Billy Blood, who owned the pistol is in jail, charged with endangering the welfare of a child and armed criminal action and her three children are in state custody. They should charge her with homicide, if there was any justice, by the time she got out, we would all be driving spaceships like the Jetsons. She was carrying an unregistered pistol in her purse, no permit, loaded with a chambered round ready to go. A child will never make it to kindergarten, or the prom, or divorce court, or any of the other facets of life we all can expect to experience. The woman who let the gun out of her control, might as well have dropped the hammer herself. Maybe you think I'm being too harsh, maybe you don't, but we can all agree that the gun owner is at fault, yes? Well not so fast. According to an interview on Fox 4 with two of Blood's friends, not only is Blood a great mommy herself, this isn't her fault, in fact they don't think she should have been charged with a crime.
And that's where my jaded, seen it all and done my fair share, sensibilities were awakened, yes even shocked. This is an excerpt from the interview of these two bone heads on Fox 4
"According to Jennifer Leone and Randy Huffstutler, friends of blood who were not there that day, Angelina's mom switched purses with Blood. So, they claim, the handgun that would have been in Blood's purse was in the child's mother's purse."
Wait there's more, and shit gets deep.
"Huffstetler and Leone say Angelina went into her mom's purse, which now had Blood's belongings, pulled out the gun and shot herself in the head. They say that Blood had no idea the gun was even in that purse and therefore shouldn't have been arrested."
Blood told police that she carried the gun because her brother was killed in a carjacking two years ago. She also told the cops that her two and a half year old son had taken the pistol out of her purse over the summer and brought it to her and she told him to "never touch it again". A neighbor told the cops that Blood's 5 year old son had brought a pistol out of the house and was showing it to him. The neighbor said Blood scolded him and told him to take the gun back in the house.
With me so far?
So we have a woman with an illegal handgun. Both of her kids have got their hands on the gun in the not too distant past. She lets it out of her sight for, god only knows how many times, but, hey it ain't her fault. The two women switched purses, the kid thought she was getting in her mothers purse. It's clearly the 4 year olds fault, and while we are at it, not once in the entire interview did I hear mention of the tragedy of a 4 year old being killed. So while we are busy blaming it all on a kid who didn't have 3 years of potty training under her belt, lets go ahead and just drag the mother in to it and blame her for the purse switch. Because losing your child in that manner doesn't produce a sufficient amount of guilt and anguish, lets heap some more on that full plate.
Jennifer Leone and Randy Huffstutler, the two friends who came to Billy Bloods defense, have achieved a level of intellect that the likes of you and I will never be able to fathom. If we could somehow harness the combined power of these geniuses, we could generate enough energy to make , toast,.........light.......top brown only, one slice,.....maybe. And it's the stupidity, the knuckle dragging, over hanging brow ridge, mouth breathing , idiocy, that spews forth from peoples mouths that never fails to shock me. Another tragedy and senseless death, in a long line of the same, doesn't shock me any longer. I'm over that , bad shit happens, and more often than not it happens to the weakest and most undeserving of us. It's sad, tragic, sometimes to the point of making your throat close around itself, but shocking, not so much. But for some reason, the people who are so quick to pipe up and blame the victim, they still shock me. Seems to be no shortage of that lately.
