Rarely is the outcome good when we hear a child has gone missing. I automatically assumed that would be the case of 3 year old Joshua Childers, who walked into Mark Twain National forest. The little guys shoe was found a mile from his home. Then sometime yesterday he was found by a searcher, crying in the woods, hungry and requesting milk and hot dogs, but otherwise in good shape. It's nice to see one turn out okay for a change. That said, he wandered off while his father was sleeping and his mother was on the phone. Maybe I'm just a cynical prick, but if your 3 year old manages to put a mile or more distance between you, while you are yappin on the phone, then maybe you should shut your pie hole and keep a better eye on your child.
What? You thought this was gonna be feel good time? Ha, you must have forgot who you were reading.
Wow, can you believe it? Drew Peterson actually got arrested for killing one of his wives. I honestly hate to play devils advocate on this one, but.......You have two separate autopsy results, and what Drew's lawyers are calling a rock solid alibi, his son claims he was with him at the time of his wife's death. Given the fact that this creep has pretty much walked around unencumbered since the disappearance of his most recent victim, wife, same difference, I'm not convinced the state can make it stick. In related news, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation wants to talk to Peterson concerning the mysterious death of several Munchkins.
This wont be a popular sentiment here in Independence, or anywhere else in Missouri, but can we stop swinging off of Harry Trumans sack? I'm not going to go all Jon Stewart on you and call Truman a war criminal, even though he dropped two bombs that killed a couple hundred thousand civilians. Trumans political career was made possible through the efforts of Kansas Citys biggest criminal, Boss Tom Pendergast. When talk show host David Susskind asked the ex-president, in 1953, why he had never been invited to the Truman home despite their many interviews, Truman replied: “You’re a Jew, David, and no Jew has ever been in the house. Bess runs it, and there’s never been a Jew inside the house in her or her mother’s lifetime.” He was also alleged to have rubbed elbows with the local KKK. My point to all of this , especially during Harry Truman days? I get annoyed when we prop up our leaders, make them out to be something they aren't. People do it now with Obama, they've done it with Kennedy, who was also less than a stellar human being. The list goes on. I prefer a little reality when considering the people who lead us.
Now that I've hopefully pissed off a few people, that's a rap.
Wow. The racist Truman comments really surprise me, especially considering the fact that the US under Truman was the first country to acknowledge the state of Israel (which was a huge, controversial thing)and the fact that Truman was the first president to start desegregating the military. By policy, he was a much more "racially enlightened" leader than FDR, Ike or even arguably Kennedy...interesting. I'm shocked that a political leader would publically act in one way and then hold personal views that are so different.
ReplyDeleteit was the 50's Moxie, so by those standards I guess Harry was ahead of the pack. I'm just trying to keep things in perspective. I think it was the Walt Bodine show yesterday that set me off. They were interviewing truman grandson. You would have thought Harry was Christ come down from the cross to hear them tell it.
ReplyDeleteSo how long was the mother on the phone? My 3 year old granddaughter wandered off a few years back while we were all (3 adults) sitting on the patio just talking and she was playing right around us. One minute she was there, the next gone. We all went crazy looking for her... 20 some acres and a pond .. my daughter jumped in it crying and hollering for her. Turned out the little darling had decided to play hide and seek with us and I guess the more she heard us hollering for her, the better she liked the "game" and kept quiet for a full 10 minutes!
ReplyDeleteIt can happen unless your eyes are on them every minute.
agreed Jools, but they said the little guy was missing for close to an hour before they called the police. Keep in mind these people live in Mark Twain National Forest, it's pretty vast and remote in spots. Seems like they should have the tyke contained in a yard with a fence when they are surroundewd by woods.
ReplyDeleteAgreed about the fence. When we lived in Mississippi and I had 3 small children ages 5,3 & 2 they did not go outside alone and the door locks were up high where it was harder for them to reach. Wildlife and toddlers don't often mix well. We had woods and a bayou with at least one gator in it. If I had to talk on the phone I used the cordless and went outside with them.
ReplyDeleteGive 'em Hell, Midtown Miscreant!
ReplyDeleteNow, wait a minute...what makes you an authority on how someone needs to be tending to their kids? If I am correct, you don't have any. By the sounds of your life all you do is smoke pot and make fun of people on your blogs. You drive around weed no doubt while trying to take funny pics of people who you feel are at a lower standard than that of yourself. So smoke some more mexican ditch weed and be glad you don't have kids to look after because who knows where they would be right now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for faulting Truman on the H-bomb. He could have exploded 2 H-bombs off shore damaging the military in an incredible show of strength, which would have had the same effect.
ReplyDeleteInstead he H-bombed two unsuspecting civilian populations killing hundreds of thousands of people.
And he could make himself feel good about it.
smoking weed..i meant
ReplyDeleteanon
ReplyDeleteI have two children, well mannered, well raised, and never lost in the woods. I only smoke mexican weed every other week as part of a NAFTA agreement. I never smoke weed and drive, mainly because I cant remember where I put my keys. I do other shit besides take pictures and make fun of people. I entertain goofballs who complain about the shit I write, but keep reading it anyway. Thanks for that.
Oh jeez MM, does your prison experience and RSO status fuck you up as a wannabe historian. Just because you rolled into Independence because you pussed out on KC don't make you a lifer here. History lesson for the slammer bitch. HST integrated the millitary in July of 1948, recognized Israel in May of 1948. Quoting from history, which you know nothing of, "His pro-Israel outlook "was based primarily on humanitarian, moral, and sentimental grounds, many of which were an outgrowth of the president's religious upbringing and his familiarity with the Bible." Oh, and his closest friend and business partner was Eddie Jacobsen...drumroll..a Jew! Nice try MM, thanks for playing, go back to KC where you can spew your bullshit and the lameass bloggers that hang on to your nuts can defend you. And don't forget to register.
ReplyDeleteIPD
ReplyDeleteYou will notice that my post referenced links. You might want to bone up on your own history before you try to take your betters to school, skippy. And seriously, the whole register IPD thing, you can do better. Keep readin, but don't be breedin.
You’d better watch out MM. After all, he is “Quoting from history”. If you get him riled up, he might just summon up powers from the associates degree in “Everything” (aka the 14th grade) he got from the Community College of Indisippi.
ReplyDeleteHey IPD. Go polish and/or spray more primer on the El Camino, drive to the Boars Nest, and try to keep your hands off toothless Daisy’s ass. You know that Boss Hog will put you on mosquito patrol in Fiddler’s Gulch if you don’t stop touching your cousin in public.
Politics makes strange bedfellows, Nixon was a documented (on tape)anti-Semite but it didn't prevent him from having Kissinger around. And to whoever quoted the "history" here, there is always more than one version -one for text books and the other one that comes out 50 years later and they are not necessarily the same.
ReplyDeleteDamn MM, your links of Wiki and other questionable sources as always leave you out in the cold. Why didn't you haul your pathetic ass out to the Truman Library (I know it costs a few bucks, but maybe you can spare it from the change people give you when you sit at 24 and 435 bumming). When you (and the pathetic bloggers hanging off your nuts) want to debate Truman in Independence (goddamn that is sad knowing that you are anywhere in this town) bring it. If you want to show the sheeple your lack of knowledge, just shut the fuck up. Ex Felons and RSO's like you that have a following fuck the internet up. And remember to register. It's the law.
ReplyDeleteand yet you read me daily, and comment daily. Im just sayin. Keep stalkin, but stop talkin.
ReplyDeleteI like the irony of IPD trying to defend the former President of supposedly not being prejudiced, and in the same posting he makes prejudicial remarks himself against MM for being an ex-con.
ReplyDeleteAnd to set the record straight, Truman was human. He did a lot of good things as President, but that doesn't mean that he or his wife could not have biases in private. It was not unusual for a lot of supposedly open-minded white folks to publicly support civil rights, but in private never allow their children to date someone of color. It's the classic double standard that many of us still operate with whether we want to admit it or not.
My apologies for this double post, but there was something else I wanted to add to this revelation about Truman.
ReplyDeleteTimes and attitudes were different 60 years ago. Supposedly polite society accepted some very impolite and bigotted views. I recommend watching Clint Eastwood's latest flick, "Gran Torino", in which he portrays a very un-politically-correct 80 something year old. Now tell me you've never met someone that reminded you of that character.
American society has not always been so liberal and open-minded as we like to think of ourselves today. Use of the N-word and racist jokes were everyday occurances in 1950's America. Back then some whites even accepted the KKK as some sort of twisted social club, like the Elks or the Shriners in sheets. It was a different world, and whether someone was progressive or not in their personal outlook they were immersed in a sea of prejudice. It would surprise me if someone of that age weren't affected by all that bias.
Did you know Truman was a Mason? He was very proud of that affiliation. How many mixed race mason lodges do you see even today? It's something to think about before you start trying to canonize Truman into something more than human.
