The NAACP. the Tea Party, and Dancing Bears....Be sure to bring your own rocks.

" The people with short hair started throwing rocks at the people with long hair. The people with long hair started throwing the rocks back. Come to find out when they have a rock concert in Califorina, everybody brings their own rocks."        David Allen Coe

That's a money line from an obscure song called Dakota the Dancing Bear. It's about a bear that  is forced to dance at a roadside gas station, and ends up supporting a female bears heroin habit. I didn't say the entire song made sense, and it doesn't.  But the line about the rock concert is kinda deep when you think about it. In fact you can apply it to the  pissing match that is brewing between  members of the Tea Party and the shot fired across their bow by NAACP president Ben Jealous. More on that later, as it's just another rock being chunked at the oppositions melon.  I've been all contemplative and shit lately ,trying harder than ever to see the merit to opposing views. It's a funny thing, the more I try to see the "other sides perspective, the harder it is to find reason in it.

So which side are you on, M M?

I like to think I'm on the side of common sense. Unfortunately that leaves out the Left. It leaves out the Right. And I'm still pondering the middle, but they seem as full of shit as the rest.  At the end of the day it's all about who ends up King of the Hill. Everyone is scrabbling to reach the top of the pile, and stay there. The NAACP and the left pull out Tea Party protestors spitting on members of congress. Not to be outdone. the right pulls out the recent decision to not pursue charges against a couple of meat heads from the New Black Panther Party for voter intimidation.
It's all political posturing and dick measuring.
It's Texas Hold Em, first one to show a tell , losses.

I'll see your racist Tea Bagger...............

and raise you one of the guys who just got free of the voter intimidation beef.

The people with long hair start throwing rocks at the people with short hair, the people with short hair start throwing the rocks back. Pretty soon you can't recall who threw what first. Meanwhile, we all lose. Promises of change are as empty from one administration to the next. It's all about hidden agendas, special interests, and staying at the top of the shit heap.
Meanwhile here in the real world............
Unemployment
Crime
Education
Poverty
Immigration
The real issues that are dragging all of us down, take a back seat.
Jesse Jackson compares Lebron Bazillionaire James to a runaway slave.

Some Tea Party member compares Obama to Hitler.
and the people with short hair..........well you get the picture.

And don't ask me what the solution is. If I knew that, I'd be at the top of that hill enjoying the rock fight.

  1. Regarding our society's devolution into making everything one extreme or another, and in keeping with using lyrics as political philosophy, methinks Soul Asylum summed it up nicely in 'Runaway Train' :
    Everything is cut and dry
Day and night, earth and sky
Somehow I just don't believe it

As for what's really going on,there's what I would nominate as the best political comment ever uttered in rock: "Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss."

    Thanks, MM

  2. Maybe we should go back to the old ways of electing a leader. The one who managed to kill all the rest of the candidates wins. One on one hand to hand combat only. At least we would be assured of someone who could make a decision and stand by it. And he can stay in power until killed by another contender. Ya think?

  3. Our political process has been reduced to The Beast-With-Two-Heads, two political parties trying to be THE party of special interest money.

That leaves the rest of us as third-class citizens. Unless you have a shitpot full of money then your voice (or voices) will be lost in the wilderness. Imagine playing whisper down the lane at a rock concert.

We have managed, through gerrymandering and white-flight from the cities, to carve out legislative districts which seldom (if every) pose any challenges to the party in charge. We get politicians whose first loyalty is to the party rather than to the electorate.

We have become corrupt and content. More interested in what the Washington D.C. gravy train brings to our plates than what is best for this nation as a whole.

Come election day we are asked to chose between cancer and polio.

  4. To quote Kristofferson: "Everybody's gotta have somebody to look down on, who they can feel better than at any time they please. Someone doin' something dirty decent folks would frown on: If you can't find nobody else then help yourself to me."

  5. Then there's always the Sex Pistols, with a necessary pronoun change: We're so pretty vacant, and we don't care.

  8. The slave owner / taxpayer photo you've found is actucally none other than Dale Robertson. Not just any tea party member, he's a founder of the teaparty.org website. Some would still argue that he represents the fringe.. but when he's running their website it makes the pill a little tougher to swallow.

This "New Black Panther" stuff is total BS. These guys are so full of crap that the original black panthers are embarrassed they're using their name.

I consider myself fiscally conservative; but I was really discouraged by the bush administration. Dick Cheney himself publicly talked about how deficits just don't matter... while running two wars, and peddling tax cuts for the rich (without cutting spending!). These people are simply not fiscally conservative (at least on the federal level). Then, two months into a Democrat's administration, tea party people suddenly can't stand deficit spending? Where were they the other 8 years?

At this moment, taxes are lower than under Bush, and gun rights have been expanded. Yet they still scream "we gotta take back OUR country". I do think it has less to do with politics and policy than most people would like to admit.

  9. Why isn't anybody besides MSNBC saying the case against the New Black Panther Party was dropped by the Bush administration? It was dropped in early January 2009, BEFORE Obama was inaugurated.

  11. Oh, I meant Atheshit Groups, not Athesit Groups.

LOL! Just a little humour. After all, thats what they told me when I showed up at a meeting. "don't take it personally, its all in fun."

  12. There is only one thing for certain and that is this summer is getting hotter and I don't see things cooling off for a long while.

And, by the way, Tacticus, the Bush admin did drop the criminal charges but not the civil charges. Eric Holder dropped the civil charges (all charges). But of course you knew that -- just didn't mention it.
