I have noticed a trend of late, regarding some of the blogs I read regularly, they aren't writing much. People who would post every single day, including weekends, are suddenly going days between posts. I feel their pain, and I know why, at least I think I do. I have composed no less than 4 farewell final posts. My finger poised above the publish button, ready to end it all. Like someone having second thoughts about suicide, I can never pull the trigger, I can't let it go. I know the second I put a round behind the ear of this blog, something will come to me, or some event will occur that begs me to write about it. Nobody wants to be known as the Brett Favre of Blogdom. Retire one day, come back out to play the next. So I ease my finger away from the publish button, and wait for the next idea, or the next story.
Anyway, the point to this post is twofold. It fills space. I've managed to write a couple of paragraphs, about nothing, and Ive managed to steal a minute or so of your life, that you , the reader, will never get back. More importantly, this is my way of saying the frequency of my posts may drop, at least until I regain the fire in my loins for writing. Not to be confused with the fire in my loins I once caught from a hippy chick in 77. The latter was an easy fix, a penicillin shot and I was back on track. I really hate it when people blog about blogging, which is exactly what I am doing now. I'm not the type of blogger who writes about their own day to day stuff. There isn't anything wrong with those blogs, in fact, that's exactly what half of my favorite blogs are about. Those people fall under the umbrella of bloggers who really do write for themselves. They aren't concerned about how many hits they get, who reads them, or if they are read at all. I on the other hand, check my stats counter obsessively, like a laboratory monkey who gets a hit of cocaine every time he pushes a button.
So to end this rambling missive, and to get to the actual fucking point already, I'm working on a new series. I'm going to write about criminals, bad guys, and nefarious creatures of dubious character that I have known over the years. Sort of like my post about Charlie and the LAX incident. I'm going to change names, time periods and other details to protect their actual identities, and to cover my own ass. I'll also touch on some of my own crimes as well, because in the end, I know that's what people really like to read about, at least on this blog. Let me just state for the record, that I wont be glorifying or bragging, or stretching the truth. I'll just lay it out there, take it or leave it. So my first post in the new series will be Monday. And kids, dont try this shit at home.
sounds like a good read.
ReplyDeleteI know what you are saying. I was thinking about closing up shop too. Slow-down for sure.
ReplyDeleteNow you're talking! I look forward to the new series. And perhaps after you've done all you want to do with those subjects, you'll find that fire after all.
ReplyDeleteMost of my writing this summer has been rather "forced". I'll notice I've missed a day or two and try to come up with something, anything, to blog about.
I have to say, I think it's a good thing when some of the more frequent posters go silent for awhile. I'd rather see bloggers post more meaningful, well thought out posts, then simply post something for the sake of posting something.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the new series.
Hell, no need to post every day, don't sweat it. If you don't post for a while maybe you could start commenting around to get the juices flowing. For a while there you were the best commenter around! Look forward to the new stuff.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to it!!!
ReplyDeleteDo this if you must, MM, but please publish the occasional Urban Blight post. I love those.
ReplyDeleteMany of us are on Twitter & get to blow steam off that way.
