Mazel tov! Keep it up. As for the "safeness" of the article, hey, editors - whatcha gonna do? That's one reason why you've got your own blog, among many others, of course.
It's a learning process for me right now. I have some stuff planned that will be more like what you read here. I think they will give me a fair amount of rope. Keep watching, I don't think I'll disappoint.
I though it was a great debut! The tone and subject matter was classic miscreant and I even learned some stuff I didn't know about a cemetary that I drive by twice a day.
Excellent work! Very, very happy about your new gig! Congratulations! You earned it!
Would love to come to the kick off party, but I have to rush home and get my drink on!
Mark- Great job. I kind of have a dual loyalty when it comes to "hometown". I grew up in Blue Springs, but spent summers at my aunts house in Northeast. I love the buried history under the ground too. I used to mow the grass at a cemetary in Blue Springs when I was a kid. Lobb Cemetary. The first person buried there was John Crow[no shit]. Born in 1820, died in 1836.
You gotta love the history man.
Congratulations on your new gig. It fits you dude.
Your article was great... there's a ton of history in Elmwood if you don't mind digging. As for the website... I think it will be fine but boy do I HATE orange.
Very nice inaugural piece - you managed to get close to the people and close to the earth - at the same time.
For my part, I don't think it's "watered down" as much as it's "sunday'd up." Either way, it's you and it stands on its own. Kick Ass. Lucky Kansas City.
Hey, I was just over at http://www.kclunchspots.com/ and he is now writing for the KC Free Press as well. Like I said over there, I see a crossover peice coming here! ;)
