A Lakeland Florida judge handed down a five year sentence to Ed Muscare for repeatedly failing to comply to his restrictions and the rules of his probation and parole. It's no big secret that I had a hand in drawing attention to Muscare, and I haven't pulled any punches when it comes to my opinion about sex offenders. My initial reaction, I'd be lying if I said I thought the punishment fit the crime. I don't, in fact I think the judge went overboard. Five years is tantamount to a death sentence for a a 77 year old man. I'm assuming he will have to serve a pretty big slice of that nickle. While I don't think he should have walked away unscathed, five years seems pretty harsh. There was a moment when I felt a little guilty, felt some sympathy for Muscare. I think it was the line he offered the court about seeing that his dogs were taken care of that got to me for a second.
Then there is the reality of Muscare's actions. He violated nearly every condition of his release, after being told to stop posting videos, he had someone else do it. He stood before the bench and told them he didn't do anything wrong. Never mind that he failed to register as a sex offender, forget that he moved out of state failing to notify either the state he left or the state he moved to.
"I feel in my heart I did nothing wrong."
Those were the words that bought him a fresh nickle in the joint. That's the same mindset that allowed him to commit sexual battery on at least one child. When you can convince yourself that something wrong is right, that is the mindset which makes you a danger. Fans of Muscare, and he has thousands, will fail to see the reasoning behind the admittedly harsh sentence. They won't bother to look beyond the creepy, goofy, old guy posting harmless videos. They will downplay or totally deny the lasting effect upon the victim of Muscare's original crime. They will naively call his crime a mistake. Not unlike their youtube idol, they will make shit right in their own mind. The truth is, people who molest children, the animals who rape women, they never really lose that urge. They may learn to control it through fear of prison, but it's always there, and that is why guys like Ed Muscare , harmless as he may appear, must be kept on a tight leash. Ironically one of the driving forces behind Ed's downfall wasn't me, not really. All I did was put a little information out on this blog, and through a short interview on Fox 4. The thing that brought Muscare to his present fate, his fans and his buddy who continued to post those videos after Muscare was told to stop by the authorities. I believe the Judge probably spent some time perusing the comments, realized that Muscare's followers were in large part young, impressionable, and many under age. I think he was able to put 2 and 2 together and realized that Ed could potentially reach out to some of his more impressionable fans. I also believe that the Judge got more than a little annoyed over Ed trying to work around the order to cease posting videos and using the Internet, by having a friend post them.
In the end, I just helped to get the ball rolling, it was his friends and fans, and his need to draw attention to himself, along with his inability to play by the rules, that cost him his freedom.
You are absolutely right anony, they do the time then just let em run loose. I'm sure you won't mind when one of them moves next door, or starts coaching your kids. Don't let the internet door hit ya in the ass on the way out.
ReplyDeleteBy drawing attention to "Uncle Ed"...I can't help but wonder what might be in YOUR closet!!
DeleteI LOVE EDAREM! and he did nothing wrong.
ReplyDeleteHe committed a crime 23 years ago.
ReplyDeleteHe served his time.
Just because you believe pedophiles can't change, doesn't make it so.
Recividism rates are in the 20-40% rate and decrease over time.
Abuse is pretty common 15-25% of women and 5-15% of men. Most victims recover.
As I see it, you saw that he violated his probation and you reported it. Most people would see the video and decide he was harmless, but you have your own history and that changes your judgement, and you did what you thought was right to prevent anyone else getting hurt. It's a long stretch in logic to me to see the videos as a lure to underage youths, but I think the Judge agreed with you. Anyway, you didn't put him back in the clink, the Judge did.
maybe you and the judge can share a mutual backwater handjob as you scoff over what an evil you've ridden this world of.
ReplyDeletei hope the guilt chokes you in your sleep.
Early release with probation is a contract between the State and the convict. He knew the consequences of failing to register in another state, and notify his home state of his move. These creeps never think anything they do is wrong. Uncle Ed is right where he deserves to be.
ReplyDeleteDon't waste a thought on the ol short-eye or any of the closet creepers writing in to support him.
ReplyDeleteBaby-rapers must die. If he had done his time in an Illinois joint, he probably wouldn't have made it out. So he did his crime 23 years ago. So the vic "recovered"...so what? He forfeited the right to breathe as soon as he touched a kid.
Dan / Chicago
Anyone that backs him up is just as bad. You hang with a short-eye, you must BE a short-eye.
Baby raper? REALLY? I find comfort in the fact that you were a virgin until the age of 26!
DeleteAnony well wisher
ReplyDeletehe committed a crime just a couple of years ago, he was convicted and given probation, he fucked that up. All things being equal, I slept pretty soundly last night. I doubt I'll choke on the guilt, but thanks for thinking of me.
Since when is 25 years a COUPLE of years ago??
DeleteMark-Maybe that first uptight sympathizer wants to take care of the suckling dog....because you know Ed probably taught that dog to suck something else!
ReplyDeleteI thought he was creepy when I was four years old. Nothing has changed. Good read, once again.
Five years was too short a sentence. Chomos and diaper snipers are always getting short sentences. There is only one just sentence for those scum and they are too cowardly to carry it out. Send those anonymous douchebags in to see me and I'll show them how the scum behave and how "repentant" they really are.
ReplyDeleteI thought Ed was a talentless hack when he had his shows in Kansas City years ago. Never gave him another thought until recently when I learned of all the hubbub. Curious, I went on youtube and looked at several of his videos. He hasn't really changed, he's still a talentless hack, however, I have to say that the overall impression I came away with after viewing them is that they were the random musings of a bored & lonely old man with with very little talent but a lot of moxie.
ReplyDeleteFive years is abusive. The punishment for parole violation, especially when it's as harmless as this was, shouldn't be used as a virtual death sentence.
It's easy to hate weird looking old men who are guilty of having committed disgusting crimes in the past. I think this is why his punishment was so over the top. You can never shake off the onus of having committed such an act as Ed is guilty of - society will never forgive you no matter what you do.
I agree Craig, I'd have liked to see them put a house arrest bracelet on him, take his computer and call it good. I think 5 was over the top by at least 4 years. That said, after reading the courts statements this wasnt Ed's first rodeo. The case he was on probation for wasn't the child molestation, but his repeated refusal to follow his sex offender stipulations.
ReplyDeleteThe poor guy was only posting completely innocent videos of the most harmless nature. Those who have had a part in this travesty should have the same heavy hand come down on them. You should be ashamed of having any part of this. He was doing nothing wrong and you know it. I am not one of those that think that highly of you and your blog. Now that you may have had a hand in the imprisonment of a very old man for doing nothing that would remotely be considered wrong, my opinion of you is reinforced. I have watched every video he posted and it lifted the spirits of an unemployed man with little hope of a job, seeing someone who being handed lemons made lemonade. You on the other hand...
ReplyDeleteScrew all that. If this moke offended with a kid, I don't care if it was a hundred years ago, he should have been wasted then. Anything he got going on now is just gravy.
ReplyDeleteDan / Chicago
Kansas Scout, You miss the point. He violated his probation and failed to follow the offender guidelines. End of story.
ReplyDeleteIt was those videos; that you enjoyed so much, that nailed him. So in a way, by watching them you encouraged him to keep posting them, therefore you are responable for putting him in jail, not MM.
If hadn't violated the terms of his probation, he'd be a free man right now. His pervie-ness doesn't really play into any of it.
Anyone involved in getting Edarem sent back to jail sucks. Find something better to do with your time than harass an old man sex offender who's done is time. He was posting harmless, humorous videos on YouTube. Find something better to do with your time, you nudniks.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what a Nudnik is, but I have a feeling it means Cocksucker or douche bag in Norwegian. Ease up on the pickled cod cheeks, Lars. You just said "Old Man Sex Offender" , like that's a good thing. Besides, some guy named Reggie Currie deserves the credit.
ReplyDeleteMM - you're an ass, plain and simple, and I only wish you felt a little more remorse than you admitted to.
ReplyDeleteJust like everyone else who gets behind a computer and blogs about how great they are, you are one of those people who is empowered by the anonymity of the internet and uses it to trample down whoever you can for self-elevation. A harmless old man who has done his time for a crime committed before you even knew what a keyboard was is now sitting in prison - in all likelihood going to die that - and his blood is partially on your hands.
Was it his videos encouraging people to stop smoking or how to fix-up their homes that lead you to believe he was such an incredible threat to society? Or perhaps it was his talks about dealing with tragedy and why we're here that made you think, "Oh, this guy needs to be in prison!"? Aside from parole violations which, yes, were his doing (though in good reason, considering he hid from registering because someone poisoned his dog and vandalized his home for being a sex offender), Ed had not committed a single crime in 20+ years, and is obviously a deeply religious man which, even if you aren't (and I'm guessing by your attitude you're not, or you're no good at it), one can appreciate as being a testament to their character.
I've met plenty of people like you who stick their nose in business where it doesn't belong and then try to justify it by some kind of fuzzy logic so you don't feel bad about it. I know some Anon like me isn't going to convince you otherwise, but I just hope when you close your eyes at night or even have a moment alone that you remember the poor old man whose only family in this world are 3 dogs... whose age and position in life prevented him from being in the spotlight like he once was when he was happy. An old guy who, it seems to me, just wanted to put the past behind him and spend the rest of his few days on Earth doing what he loves, but now he'll be spending those remaining days in prison, undoubtedly hurt and harassed and away from his only family.
I know that everything you did was perfectly legal by our laws, but the crime you committed in helping to ruin this man's life (and the joy of his thousands of fans) far outweighs his crime, and (to provide you with the same heartlessness that you showed Ed) I hope you serve a life-sentence it.
I'm far from a anony blogger, while you on the other hand are just another anony commenter. Your statement might have had a shred of credibility if you would have had the sack to put a name behind your comment while accusing me of hiding behind the anonymity of the internet. The Pitch article gives everything but my address, the fox 4 interview was in my house. short of giving out my SSN, I don'tknow how un-anonymous I can be. At the end of the day, Ed made his choices, his friend Phil and his fans are what brought Ed to his current state, not me. And once again you are incorrect, he committed the felony of failing to register. And it was just a few years ago, not 20. I sleep well, thanks for your concern. Maybe if all you concerned fans would have tried to persuade Ed to stop when he was first warned, rather than encourage him, he might be a free man today. And fyi, what prevented him from being in the spotlight, was blowing a kid, and making himself a pariah. Get your facts straight chuckle head.
ReplyDeleteI love watching Ed's videos. Yet, I think he went about it all wrong. If he really wanted to make videos in the first place, then he should have asked his parole officer/judge or whoever control such things first before posting on youtube. Heck, he should have registered that he was a sex offender in the first place.
ReplyDeleteEd should of played by the rules first and maybe (just maybe) he would have been given a chance to do so.
it was the famous reggie currie of www.wido.co.uk forum, an infamous character reggie is, he also makes videos on youtube and can be contacted through his page http://www.youtube.com/user/ReggieCurrieReturns
ReplyDeletereggie currie holds 99.9% of the responsibility for the pedophile edward muscares rearrest.
Mark-It seems all the "ed lovers" choose to remain anonymous.
ReplyDeleteI detect a pattern.
It's funny how all the Ed haters on here like to clump people into classifiable groups. There's a thing called compassion. Maybe you should learn about it instead of going through life full of hatred. you forget that prison is not there to punish, it's meant to rehab criminals to rejoin society. The man was near death and harmless, he didn't bother anyone for 20 something years. In my opinion he served his time, Prison did its work already, he was trying to live in peace and redeem himself by trying to help people instead of hurting them, I don't quite understand why anyone whould have anything against that? He didn't deserve this.
ReplyDeleteThere's a reason people are posting as anonymous. No, not the one you think. There you go clumping people together again.
To all -- it's been probably 9 months or so since I googled Ed Muscare. Back in the mid 60s at the height of his fame as "Uncle Ed" on 41 Tree House Lane, he would hang out at PWP parties and date unsuspecting single moms in order to get at their kids. At least that's what he did to my mom, in order to get at me and my 2 brothers. I also had a hand in keeping him in jail in Florida back in the mid 80s, when news broke he was up to his old tricks. Sorry for the lateness of the reply. Just catching up on Uncle Ed and his latest exploits. Also, not sorry, but he is getting what he deserves. No one has any idea how many lives he has devastated that he has not answered for.
ReplyDeleteI see that you are aware he committed a non violent sex offense about 25 years ago. Are you aware of the details? Or are you just going to assume the worst. Funny how you jump to assumptions and convince YOURSELF that he has an evil mind with urges he will be fighting off until death. Make sure you know the whole story before trying to destroy someone else's life. By the way, I only discovered today that Ed was "youtube" famous and that he was also jailed. I live in Kansas City and have known Ed for a long time. It is a shame you're so uneducated on these subjects
ReplyDeleteOk, so he failed to register or tell where he's living. That's one thing, but what the hell was wrong with him posting videos? There was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with his videos. He should've gotten community service for getting lazy about his probation. That's it. I wish I could help him. God Bless you, Ed.
ReplyDeleteThis man has a dark history. He left his TV career in Kansas City in the 70s due to a somewhat mysterious "scandal" He moved I believe to Arizona where he was coaxed from his entertainment retirement to host another horror show later in the 80s he was arrested in somewhat of a shack for giving alcohol to under aged boys.. He committed many evil acts before his actual conviction. I know because he was close to my family during my childhood. I experienced his true colors first hand and so did my cousin. The tears you saw in court could win him an emmy. I have had some contact with him as an adult trying to gain answers to the torment and monsterous crimes that remained silent and unpunished as a child. He did nothing but continue to torment me with insane riddles and angry rants. He enjoyed telling me the details of the sex acts he performed on the young man he was convicted of assaulting. He said it was conscentual but knowing this man I'm am sure it was violent and evil. He enjoys the limelight. He thrives on his fans his manipulation of people is his life blood. His victim mentality is his excuse now that he appears feeble in his old age. He is the devil himself. Live with yourself if you support him. He is a monster.
ReplyDeleteI've followed everything about this old ma because I never imagined this man would be there, but I have a doubt because I heard this man is called Sildenafil Citrate
ReplyDeleteWell, he has to pay for not doing what the judge said and thats the way the law is. If his you tube friends don't like it, to bad for them. They really need to put themselves in the shoes of that child he committed sexual battery on. SI bet you that nickel that child is glad he is no longer a threat to society.
ReplyDeleteI believe I can speak to this article pretty well. I WAS one of his victims back in the 70's... long before he actually got caught in his act /acts of pedophilia. This article was very well written and speaks volumes. I am a female, but know several of his victims were indeed boys, as well. We need more real men (and adults in general) to speak up against these creeps. Ed abused his position as an entertainer of children. He abused our parents trust and all our innocence. I thank the author of this blog. I see you have compassion for the creepy old dude, but are also very sickened by him, as are ALL his victims and their families. I should go visit the sick freak in jail. I bet he'd just give me that creepy look and chuckle with his creepy laugh. Eeeeew... I'm having a horrible flash back of him being stark naked in my childhood friend's bed... glaring at me with his finger over his mouth whispering "shhhh". Moron!!! I'd like to shoot the bastard!!, but prison is probably harsher than death. Thank you, judge! We need more judges like you to speak for those who have no voice.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing... in case no one realizes--- this guy is a complete narcissist and that is why he kept on youtubing himself. They have to always be 'on'... and seeking attention. Very self absorbed and exhibit attention seeking behavior.. Well, he got attention alright! Hahahaha! As they say - be careful what you wish for, no? Ha! Hope he rots there.
ReplyDeleteHe did something a long time ago. He paid his debt.
ReplyDeleteTo society.
I wonder if the kid(s?) he molested are okay with him just running around? If it were my kid??? He'd be dead. And I'm okay with that.
From "Lawrence Journal-World", April 22, 1987, page 6A:
ReplyDeleteFormer TV host faces molestation sentence
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A former Kansas City, Mo., television show host was sentenced Tuesday to 2 1/2 years in the Florida State Prison after pleading no contest to a charge of committing sexual battery on a child.
Orange County Circuit Judge Ted Coleman also ordered the host, Ed Muscare, to serve 10 years on probation after completing the prison sentence. Court records said Muscare sexually molested a 13-year-old boy in August.
Muscare was the original host of "All Night Live" on KSHB-TV, Channel 41, in Kansas City before he left in 1983 and later appeared on TV stations in San Diego and Phoenix. Muscare played Uncle Ed on "Treehouse Lane," a Channel 41 children's show, in the 1970s.
Yes, Where is his so-called "victim?" What are the details of the crime?
ReplyDeleteThis guy deserves to be where he is. Just because he was only accused once doesn't mean he didn't do it multiple times. I know if it was my child or even me I would want him in for life. Taking advantage of innocent children just to satisfy his sick desires, pathetic. Muscare it's a shame society is riddled with creeps like you. Stay in jail, we don't want you in the free world.
ReplyDeleteYou wrote a worthy article that...sadly...will be discounted by many who have no information and are guided by emotions...not facts. I knew Ed when we were adolescents and admired him and got in trouble with him. I changed. After forty years I located him again on the net and found the same person guided by his view of the law.He is talented and very smart. Sadly, he appeared to be the same Ed I once knew. His dilemma recently is that he came upon a judge who was smarter and more awre of the real Ed.
ReplyDeleteA very elderly man is now in prison thanks your blockwaert ressurection.
ReplyDeleteHis life was threatened, his dogs poisoned by being on a public shame registry for a crime over 20 years ago - but that's Life In America.
You wanna complain, move to 1930's Nazi Germany.
Ed made videos and posted on youtube. Unlike you, he was liked and admired.
THAT right there was his crime.
Not one child has been "saved", the world is NOT a better place because of YOUR being in it, injustice prevailed.
Give yourself a pat on the back. I'd say "Job well done."
he already pay his debt with society! now, hes just bee encarcelated because posting videos. THATS why. videos that are only nice, entretaining, warm-hearted. I MISS ED! poor old man.
ReplyDeleteWell, basically a life-time sentence for nothing.. apparently, the judge needs to be fucked really hard to get back in touch with reality.
ReplyDeleteAnd author of this blog? Well, have a great time in purgatory for helping to destroy a human life and leeching on his fame.
I am a friend of one of those posting comments, and am aware of how "IT" changed the lives of boys forever. For those in support of IT, you do not realize the repercussions...the way it can wreak havoc on a young boy/man's self-worth, and relationships. Do you think differently now that we have the Penn State "debaucle"? If not, I'm sorry...for you.
ReplyDeleteI would question the mental status of anyone who thinks it is ok to sexually assault anyone, but especially a child(ren). Victims lose their childhood, have many years, and often the rest of their life, to repeatedly deal with the degradation and emotional pain of this type of abuse. As a therapist, I would recommend a life sentence with no chance of parole. Had that been done, he wouldn't have had to go back to jail, he just never would have gotten out. You say he paid for his crime? His victims are still paying and they were innocent.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel proud now

BTw, my name is Sergio Rodriguez Tellez, I live in Madrid, have two children, one of then schizofrenic and I would gladly have had Ed as a neighbour
Also, I find despicable that sex-crime convicts have to register their movements, and be subject to life sentences of harrasment and bullying, even at 80 y.o, after having done their time in prison
Convicted MURDERS don't have to do that, for the love of God!
The US hysteria regarding sex crimes is totally out of proportion, it's ridiculous
Enjoy your fundamentalism
Although I can't help but feel a little sorry for Ed, MM is right. Ed got himself into the criminal system to begin with. Didn't want to re-register? That's not the system's deficiency. That's his. If you get yourself into something, you need to play by its rules while you're in it. I do believe that Ed truly thinks he did nothing wrong, and that's the problem. Was he ever ordered into therapy? If not, why not?
ReplyDeleteThe sadness I feel is more a sense of loss for what his life could have been, had it not been for his own actions.
I am now posting a third comment, probably my last. As of July 2, 2012, one of ITs molested victims has died. Oh, sure, it's from lung cancer, but really, it's from years of self-abuse...brought upon by not being able to comprehend or deal with sexual acts and mind control from the age of 10, by this monster. 45 years of burying overwhelming shame, feeling of being damaged goods. And he was. The litte boy ended up smoking, drinking, and drugging himself, all the way to age 55. IT took him. And still, I feel SO badly for IT, because IT didn't know how to be an appropriate human being to himself or to others. :(
ReplyDeleteMuscare abused myself and my 2 brothers years ago in
ReplyDeleteKC. I doubt he's changed much.
I am sorry to hear about the abuse you encountered. I believe you. Read my story below. I also know of two others who probably were abused as well when he rented a room in the home of young single mom with two boys. She told me that after he moved out she found that he had drawn the "Kilroy was here" expression and drawing in many odd places of her home and had given her sons many gifts.
Deletesnitches get stitches
ReplyDeleteAt the end he got what he deserved
ReplyDeleteIs he still alive?
ReplyDeleteThere are some crimes that cut to core of never being forgiven nor forgotten. A sex offense of a minor is one of them. Ed Muscare was only convicted of one sex offense against a minor. You will never know if there were others or if he ever came close to offending other minors. I do because I was one of the lucky ones who got away. As an 8 year old, a tall older man on a bike lured a friend and I into the basement of an apartment. It didn't feel right so I went back to the doorway. This tall man asked my friend what my name was. She told him and he told her to go get me. As she waliked up the stairs to get me, I looked in her eyes and ran, she followed me. I don't remember being scared but we ran back to her sister's house without looking back. The police were called but our recollection of what he looked like didn't match. This tall man with thick black hair wasn't found. Now jump 5 years ahead, our neighborhood was having a block party. My parents and neighbors organized the event and on this particular year all the dads were in my neighbor's backyard testing the beer kegs. I was on the porch when then Ed Muscare, known as Uncle Ed, came walking up my drive. He stopped and he asked the most bizarre question to 13 year old girl. He asked me if I was married. I said no, he then continued walking to the backyard. I ran into the kitchen where my mom was and told her while pointing him out through the kitchen window. She told me to stay close to her in the kitchen. At the time I didn't put this incident together with the other until years later. Could Uncle Ed been the tall man who tried to lure me into a basement? I did find out he did live near. And his voice as Uncle Ed always had a familiar sound. So this middle age woman who reads this blog about whether this man was harmless or not, I say he wanted us to believe he was harmless and sadly he believed he was harmless but he wasn't.
